BeON Home LED bulbs get UL approval
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.––BeON Home, a provider of a Bluetooth smart-home lighting protection system, announced that its LED security bulbs are now UL approved for outdoor usage as well as for use in fully-enclosed fixtures.
In a prepared statement, Alexei Erchak, CEO of BeON Home said the company secured UL approval “to enable new outdoor use cases, and we’re adding a security customization feature that lets our customers schedule convincing lighting activity to even further simulate occupancy.”
BeON light bulbs may be used on a porch light, on a lamp-post or garage fixture as well as in fully-enclosed lighting fixtures. This is unique because most LED and smart bulbs are limited to indoor use with unenclosed fixtures, according to the company.
While outdoor motion-activated bulbs “aren’t believable or convincing to intruders and are often falsely activated by animals or wind, BeON’s new UL rating and robust features extend BeON’s preventative layer of security to outside the home,” the company noted.
BeON smart modules automatically learn a household’s everyday lighting patterns and then replay them when the home is empty. If a would-be intruder rings a doorbell, the BeON smart modules turn lights on sequentially, as if a homeowner is awakening and moving throughout the house. For example, triggered by a doorbell, a BeON bulb can turn on in the bedroom, followed by an outdoor light in a very believable order.
This month BeON is introducing an app update with a feature that allows users to add lighting sequences to the everyday lighting replay program, delivering more variety to the lighting activity, allowing the bulbs to play different sequences of on and off. The feature is designed to deter burglars who may be canvassing a home looking for repetition as a sign of lighting automation, a common limitation of basic timers, according to the company.
