New Orleans considers drones

NEW ORLEANS—After two recent shooting deaths, both amidst large crowds, the New Orleans police department said it is looking into drones for crowd surveillance.

NOPD Cmdr. Jeff Walls commented on the nature of crowds in a Times-Picayune report, a New Orleans news source. “It gives the criminal element the opportunity to do something," he said.

“Walls said the use of drones could give NOPD a better vantage point to spot trouble before it happens,” the report read. “Walls said the small, remote-controlled devices could be put to use on Bourbon Street, helping officers gain an aerial view of gun-toting partiers before those guns are used.”

Currently, drones are an idea, the report said, there are no plans to put this into effect.
