Obama expected to nominate Johnson to head DHS

WASHINGTON—President Obama is expected to nominate Jeh Johnson to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, administration officials said Oct. 17.

Johnson, a former defense department general council, worked to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law, and helped shape administration policies on detainees and military commissions, The New York Times reports.

With Senate confirmation, Johnson would take over the spot left vacant when Janet Napolitano resigned in July to take over the University of California system.
