Ademco Systems takes on the Honeywell name, to leverage it

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Access control company Ademco Systems is taking on the Honeywell name, a change that company officials expect integrators will be able to leverage on future projects. The change to Honeywell Access Systems comes shortly after Ademco realigned its fire products division under one group name, Honeywell Fire Solutions Group, and a single management style. Both of these divisions now report into the Honeywell Fire & Access Solutions Group, which is led by Mark Levy. The plan, said Dennis Raefield, president of Honeywell Access Systems, is to tout the integration capabilities between the fire and access control lines. The company has already promoted the integration capabilities of its video and access control line, he said. "We're going to do access with fire," said Raefield. "That's our next integration." Raefield said the switch to the Honeywell name also better exemplifies the access systems group's capabilities. "We felt Honeywell was a more systems name than Ademco," he said. Product that will be offered under the Honeywell Access Systems name include the NexWatch, Northern and OmniTek brands. Each brand, however, will retain their name, some of which have been around in the industry for years. Besides integrating access control with fire, Raefield said the next step will be to integrate Ultrak's video products with Honeywell's access control line. Honeywell's plans to purchase Ultrak's CCTV division, announced in August, is expected to close sometime this year.
