ADT, iControl offer host of new interactive services

BOCA RATON, Fla.--ADT Security Services, a provider of electronic security systems, on Jan. 9 announced a partnership with iControl Networks.

The agreement will see the incorporation of iControl's next-generation platform, Home Security 2.0, into ADT's monitoring network to provide ADT customers with life safety, lifestyle and productivity service enhancements.

Bob Tucker, public relations director at ADT, said the partnership allows ADT dealers to increase the functionality of the systems they sell. “Interactive services will allow ADT customers to ... remotely arm or disarm their alarm systems, lock and unlock doors, control heating and air conditioning, turn lights on or off, view live video and event-driven video clips and pictures and receive text messages and email notifications when events occur.” Tucker said branding and pricing were still being worked out.

Greg Roberts, vice president of marketing at iControl, said that the partnership promised  layers of control.

“This is a solution that encompasses a number of different technologies that cater specifically to the home security industry in addition to the broadband and telco industries,” Roberts said.

IMS Research Security & Fire Group market analyst Gary Wong said it was just such a partnership that would help security companies keep pace with telcos as they move into the home security sector. “Some within the industry have commented upon the lack of innovation and slow adoption of new technologies within the established security industry. The functionality offered by traditional monitored alarm solutions is relatively basic,” Wong said. “In order to mitigate the 'threat' from the telcos, traditional security companies should seek to offer customers more innovative products and services.”
