American Building Controls shifts focus

March 11, 2004 LEWISVILLE, Texas - American Building Control Inc. announced Tuesday that it would redirect its strategic focus to concentrate on providing centralized, integrated security solutions for corporate, government and institutional markets. ABC’s Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based MDI Security Systems and Austin, Texas-based ABM Data Systems will provide the foundation for this new focus, the company said. In a statement, Chief Executive Officer Danny Mills said the company’s decision was based on a desire to capitalize on increased convergence of physical and network security. The move had been planned since late last year, he said. "When I joined American Building Control near the end of 2003, the company had begun an internal review to determine those operations that provided the optimal long-term opportunities for the company and its shareholders,” he said. "We accelerated this review and quickly fixed on MDI and ABM as presenting the most attractive long-term opportunities, in terms of both market growth and financial return.” As a result of the changing focus of the company, ABC will divest its retail consumer products division, SecurityandMore, and its industrial distribution business, IVS. USBX Advisory Services has been hired to handle these divestitures. For more on this story, see the April issue of Security Systems News.
