Apx adds 200 full-time jobs

PROVO, Utah--Residential security giant Apx Alarm announced April 1 it is adding 200 new full-time jobs with benefits.

“The logic behind the decision to increase Apx's full-time staff is simple: As we continue to grow our customer base, we're continuing to grow our capacity to provide great customer service,” said Alex Dunn, Apx COO. The jobs, he said, will be added “in all of the departments that are customer-facing: technical service, our national service department, scheduling, billing and collections.”

By the end of the first quarter of 2010, all Utah-based employees will be moved into Apx's new 125,000 square-foot headquarters here, which is currently under construction.

Apx, the largest of the summer-model companies, also expects to add more than 4,000 summer sales employees. Dunn said Apx is “cautiously optimistic” about the potential for account generation this summer. “I'm not sure anyone knows how to predict with the economy the way it is. We'll be happy if we're able to add 150,000 new accounts this summer.”

This announcement follows a layoff of roughly 80 people in January (many of the jobs were part-time positions). At the time, Apx spokesperson Stuart Dean said the layoffs were a move to eliminate “some redundancies and inefficiencies,” and he predicted that, despite the layoffs, Apx would finish 2009 with more employees than it started the year with.
