ASIS International awarded SAFETY Act designation

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--ASIS International received designation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its guideline program called the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology Act of 2002. The SAFETY Act ensures that manufacturers are not stifled by potential liability claims. The federal government recognized the possibility of reduced product development due to exposure to lawsuits and passed this act. The act also permits limitations on the damages that ASIS could be held accountable for third-party claims from those who use the program in connection with an act of terrorism. The designation dismisses related lawsuits against organizations using the guidelines to limit terrorist acts. ASIS received the designation in May. Currently, ASIS also has an application pending for the SAFETY Act approval for its certification programs.
