Associations 2.0 CSAA’s new Wiki
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Central Station Alarm Association will announce at the Electronic Security Expo here on June 25-27 the release date of a licensing and regulation resource to assist monitoring companies in managing state licensing requirements.
The resource, available in online-only format on the CSAA's Web site, will include requirements for licensing in each state, contact information for the appropriate licensing department, continuing education requirements, and other pertinent information, said Joe Miskulin, CSAA member and superintendent of central monitoring for State Farm Insurance's proprietary central station.
"We investigated all of the licensing requirements and put together documentation to be able to share that information with everybody in the [CSAA], state by state," said Miskulin. He is a member of the CSAA subcommittee that met approximately every three weeks starting in January 2008 to compile and update the information.
The need for such documentation originally arose from the SIA/CSAA ACCENT member listserv, said Celia Besore, director of marketing and communications for CSAA. "It's something we've been wanting to do for a long time, but we needed our members' help to put the content together," she said. "We had a core group of people in the subcommittee that really worked a lot on this and it's thanks to their work that it was completed."
Besore said that during the compilation process, the subcommittee discovered the information had often changed between monthly updates, so, for this reason, the information will be presented in Wiki-format, allowing users to change or add information. "It's going to be a collaborative tool where everybody will help keep it updated," she said. "We'll still have the subcommittee meet and review the information, but we're hoping everyone will participate and, as things change, contribute to keeping it updated."
