Board extends sprinkler deadline Brief

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The board overseeing an overhaul of the state's fire code agreed to give banquet halls and restaurants more time to install sprinkler systems, reported The Boston Globe. The Fire Safety Code Board of Appeal and Review changed the deadline, originally set for July 1, to give large gathering places additional time to comply with the code changes. Under the new deadlines, locations that hold more than 300 people will have until Oct. 31, 2006 to install sprinkler systems. The original deadline required locales to have contracts signed by the end of June. The new fire laws were developed in response to the 2003 fire at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, R.I.
