NFPA to offer building code seminar QUINCY, Mass. - A two-day seminar on NFPA 5000 Building Construction and Safety Code will be held May 16 and 17 before the opening of the 2003 NFPA World Safety Conference & Exposition in Dallas, which runs May 18 through May 21. The seminar, held to familiarize builders, architects and others with the code issued by NFPA last year, will be led by Joe Versteeg, principal of Versteeg Associates. It will be held at the Dallas Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Colorado association elects new officers DENVER - The Colorado Fire Protection Association elected a slate of new officers for 2003. The new officers include Steve Martin of Frontier Fire Protection Co. as president, Melissa Swap of Diamond Fire Protection Co. as vice president and Hank Bowling of Western States Fire Protection as secretary/treasurer. Denny Ross of Fire Protection Inc. and Mike Durst of the National Fire Sprinkler Association were elected as directors and Bruce Gachne of Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co. was named as Supplier Advisor to the group. Australian government to consider sprinklers in schools MELBOURNE, Australia - The State Government is considering the installation of sprinkler systems in schools after four fires in the past five weeks. According to Education Minister Lynne Kosky, security systems installed in 90 percent of the country’s schools provide adequate fire warnings, but the government would investigate the installation of sprinklers in addition to current fire prevention methods.
