Diebold partners for college application MORGANTOWN, W.V. - Systems integrator Diebold recently integrated hand geometry technology with access control for West Virginia University students to gain access into their dormitory. Plans call for a similar system, using IR’s Recognition Systems’ HandReader, to be added at the Student Recreation Center on campus. Now, to gain access into Boreman North Residence Hall, students enter an ID number and place their hand on the hand reader to gain entry. By the fall of 2003, WVU plans to install biometrics in all residence halls. Integrator books prison vehicle job PHOENIX - Integrated Protective has recently completed the installation of video cameras in prison vehicles for the Scottsdale, Ariz., police department, in what could become the first of many such jobs for the systems integrator. The project included installing a two-camera system in an undisclosed number of prison vans for the city. The system enables the driver to see in the prison compartment in the back of the vehicle without getting out. The project was unique, said Ron Boldizar, vice president of Integrated Protective Systems, because it involved integrating the electronics of the camera system with the electronics of the vehicle. The company now has four proposals before other municipalities to install similar systems in their prison vehicles. Schools use grant for security upgrades HARTFORD, Conn. - Several schools in the district here may have access to more than $500,000 in grant money to install new security equipment. The project comes several years after an earlier project installed surveillance cameras and access control equipment at Ivy Drive School. Plans call for cameras and access control equipment to be installed in at least nine schools. Work on the project is slated to begin in the spring.
