Card maker Allsafe moves, changes name

AMHERST, N.Y. -In anticipation of significant growth, access control card manufacturer Allsafe Co. moved to a larger facility here in December and added a new card printing press, laminator and inspection system. The move and capital improvements come as company officials anticipate an increase in business in the contactless card market, a growing market for the company over the past few years. It also coincides with a name change to Allsafe Technologies. Though unable to release numbers, Joy Schweitzer, marketing coordinator for privately held Allsafe Technologies, characterized the newly bought building and equipment as significant investments. “We’re a custom printer, so we wanted to increase our capabilities to work with more universities and hospitals,” explained Schweitzer. The name change also eliminates any confusion between the card manufacturer and the insurance company, All State. “We were getting a lot of callers who thought we were All State Insurance,” said Schweitzer. The new name, Allsafe Technologies, also highlights the company’s focus on technology, she said. By relocating, it enabled Allsafe to bring all of its operations under a single roof, compared with operating from two buildings totaling 25,000 square feet at its previous Buffalo location. The 38,000- square-foot facility also provides room to hire an additional 20 to 30 employees for its manufacturing department over the next six months as operations grow. The company currently employs 67 people. “There will be more efficiencies and our throughput will be increased,” said Schweitzer.
