LAS VEGAS - What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but not when it comes to attendees at ISC West, who now can receive continuing education units for educational classes held at the conference.

ISC West has teamed up with the University of at Las Vegas to award one CEU for each hour of training. Many of the program offerings will have National Training School accreditation, as well. The course fees range from $300 to $700. The UNLV will provide CEU certificates to participants that choose to receive the CEU.

Cynthia Holloway, director of industry development for Reed Exhibitions, said the CEU option for courses will keep integrators and end users informed with what is going on in the industry. “It will give attendees a competitive advantage,” Holloway said.

The 80 courses at the show will focus on learning about the technology and how it’s supplied in certain settings. The topics include technology applications, networking and IP, and infrastructure security for end users. Integrators can learn about technology designs, while the end user can take a class to further understand the technology oriented in the application.

According to Holloway, a handful of professional develop courses will be available, but those will not carry a CEU.

The UNLA Institute for Security Studies and Professional Development Center will present two courses, Crisis Communication Skills and Work Place Protection, that will be presented by former government and corporate instructors.

Access control and CCTV security industry groups from the Security Industry Association will provide sessions that are designed for dealers seeking to expand their businesses.

“A one-hour investment will arm ISC West attendees with new tools to successfully meet these challenges head-on,” said Debra Spitler, vice president of marketing and business development with Omnikey, who will lead a session.

These sessions include topics such as re-tooling for success, building business value and NICET certification.
