Corporate America steps up security measures, say CEOs

WASHINGTON - A just-released survey shows that corporations are better prepared today for terrorist incidents and threats than in years past. According to a survey from the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of leading corporations, CEOs have devoted more attention and resources to security issues. Eighty-seven percent of CEOs reported that they are devoting more time and attention to security since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. They also said they’ve significantly increased security spending, with an average increase of 10 percent. For this year, 96 percent of CEOs expect that security spending will either go up or remain steady. C. Michael Armstrong, chairman of Comcast and chairman of the Roundtable’s Security Task Force, noted that many chief executive officers are engaging in security decisions and more than half of the 100 companies that responded have made security a board-level decision.
