Criticom partners with mobile software provider

May 1, 2003 HACKENSACK, N.J. - To capitalize on what company officials view as a significant long-term market, Criticom International has signed an agreement with a mobile software and service provider to jointly develop applications for the mobile tracking and monitoring market. Through the alliance with Telcontar, a San Jose, Calif.-based spatial software platform provider, Criticom will use Telcontar's software in its services for the mobile safety, security and convenience market (MSSC), which it already targets in applications such as mobile people, vehicle and asset tracking. In addition to its customer base of alarm monitoring accounts, Criticom provided GPS tracking for debris cleanup at the World Trade Center site, a nearly year-long project. Telcontar President Eric Carlson said the alliance would help to accelerate the growth of the MSSC market by providing experience in integrating multiple products from different vendors. "As a result of our partnership with Criticom, vendors targeting applications such as aftermarket vehicle tracking, child tracking, medical tracking and mobile asset management will be able to generate revenue more quickly…than they could achieve developing their own back end service systems from scratch," Carlson said. Officials from Criticom could not comment on the partnership because of a Securities and Exchange Commission imposed quiet period, which precedes an initial public offering of company stock. Criticom has already signed a deal with Direct Electronics, an aftermarket vehicle security company to include integrated tracking, monitoring and emergency response services in products that will be launched in May.
