Delaware, Kentucky adopt NFPA 1

Delaware, which is known as the First State, was the first state in the country to adopt the new edition of NFPA1 on August 11. And while it had used the code in local jurisdictions for a long time, it is the first time the code has been adopted statewide. "Several other states have the current edition under review," said Gary Keith, vice president of regional operations for the NFPA. "Delaware is the 20th state to adopt it statewide." Kentucky followed suit on Sept. 1, adopting NFPA 1 on a statewide level as well. Kentucky and Delaware also adopted the latest edition of NFPA 101, the Life Safety Code, which is used statewide in 39 states. "NFPA 1 enhances the provisions of 101," Keith said.
