DVTel acquires SAI to enhance open standards

LAS VEGAS--On the ISC West floor, DVtel, a manufacturer of intelligent security solutions over IP networks, announced a merger with Security Applications Inc., a software development company that designs IP-based access control systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, according to a press release, DVTel will maintain the company's operations at its Fishkill, NY offices. It is too early after the close of the deal to determine if SAI will be branded under DVTel or what other internal changes will occur, said Dave Swartz, vice president of SAI. However, Swartz said, "the merger made sense," as both companies offer open standards-based platforms such as software management systems that work with multiple hardware vendors. DVTel wanted a unified video and access control system and SAI's solution fits seamlessly into the DVTel Intelligent Security Operations Center. "Our common vision and proven track records put us in the position to lead the industry with the first truly unified IP video and access control systems," Swartz said. Swartz added that DVTel and SAI believe products must be IP-based and open in both computer platforms and security hardware. "Together we envision a future of open platforms for computers, operating systems, storage systems, and field security hardware," he said.
