FEMA appoints Tidwell as code consultant

The Fire Equipment Manufacturer's Association, FEMA, an international, non-profit trade association representing the leading manufacturers of fire equipment including fire hose, standpipe systems, interior equipment, portable fire extinguishers and pre-engineered systems, on May 21 announced the appointment of Jim Tidwell to code consultant. In the short time Tidwell has been its code consultant, FEMA has developed new relationships with key personnel in the fire protection industry around North America.

As FEMA's code consultant, Tidwell will be the liaison with the ICC, NFPA, Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc. (UL), as well as fire authorities across the nation. FEMA's members are excited about the professional experience Tidwell brings to the table. For six years, Tidwell has worked for the International Code Council, most recently holding the title of deputy senior vice president of government relations. Prior to his employment with the Code Council, Tidwell also spent over 30 years as a firefighter, in every capacity from fire marshal to interim fire chief of a metropolitan fire department. “I believe my experience in the fire service and at the International Code Council will provide a solid foundation from which to build on FEMA's past successes,” comments Tidwell.

Reflecting FEMA's commitment to a balanced life safety approach to fire protection, Tidwell is a valuable asset. Due to his experience as a fire fighter, in fire department management, as well as working with various code writing entities, Tidwell sees this opportunity to further his dedication to preserving life and property through effective fire protection.
