Firetrol expands into Arizona with purchase

DALLAS--Firetrol, which is well established here in Texas and in the West, moved into Arizona for the first time with the acquisition of Arizona Fire of Phoenix. "It's a new venture for us in Phoenix," said Firetrol president John White. Terms of the deal, which was in the works for about a year, were not released. It was finalized in April, but announced in June. Firetrol designs, installs, inspects, repairs and services fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe, pumps, specialized fire suppression systems and extinguishers for commercial customers, with a focus on industrial and property management applications. The 300-employee company is headquartered here. With the addition of Arizona Fire, Firetrol now has seven district offices in Denver, Salt Lake City, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Austin, Texas. It also has four branch offices, three in Texas--Lubbock, Waco and Tyler--and one in Sulfur, La. White said Firetrol and Arizona Fire share a commitment to customers and employees, noting that former Arizona Fire owners, Colby Windle and John Bahamonde, will oversee integration of the two companies and stay on as Firetrol employees. He also pointed to the fact that all of Arizona Fire's 30 employees decided to stay with the company and that in mid-June, 60 days after the acquisition was finalized, all 30 employees were still there. White was attracted to Arizona Fire because of the growing construction market in the area and because, "We have no doubt, that they're the finest fire alarm/life safety contractor in the area." He also liked the management team and the fact that "Arizona Fire has an established distribution relationship with GE Security." Firetrol has been in growth mode for two years now and the growth will continue. "We expanded into four additional branches over the last two years," White noted, "and doubled the number of employees." This has coincided with investment by parent company Consolidated Fire Protection of Irvine, Calif. CFP is a portfolio company of Gryphon Investors, a San Francisco-based private equity firm. As for continued growth, "We are aggressively pursuing strategic acquisitions throughout the South and West and we have several in the works," White said.
