Five Questions: Wayne Campbell

Wayne C. Campbell recently joined Advance Technology as director of operations. He brings knowledge of customer service, leadership and change management to his new role at the growing company based in Scarborough, Maine. Prior to his new position, he worked as the customer support group manager for the IDEXX Laboratories, where he managed a team of nearly 100 customer-facing professionals performing onsite software/hardware installation, onboarding, training and support. Security Systems News recently asked Campbell five questions.

What's something your coworkers might not know about you?

I married my only girlfriend back when I was 16 years old—I guarantee you no one knows that. It was true love at first sight. It was like being wacked over the head at age 16, and we began dating and have been happily married ever since. Another thing that they may not know is that I am an Eagle Scout, and have a degree in leadership.

Do you have children?

I have two children, including a son who is living in Keene, N.H., and a daughter living in Orlando, Fla., I also have a granddaughter, from my son, who just turned 4.

Are you originally from Maine?

I grew up in Long Island, N.Y., in Bay Shore on the South Shore of Long Island. But, I love Maine. I actually left Long Island for college, and went to the University of New Hampshire, which basically introduced me to New England. Once I got up here, I really enjoyed the New England area, and my wife and I love Maine and New Hampshire the most.

What do you like to do in your free time? Any hobbies?

I enjoy a variety of different outdoor activities, including snowmobiling in the winter, which I love to do. I basically like anything with an engine in it. I also like to do a lot of gardening, landscaping and yard work, and enjoy any type of home project, mechanical or otherwise. I really enjoy working with my hands, so I am always working on a project or two. I also do model building, which I have been doing since I was a teenager. I have many models and continue to build those. I concentrate on cars, and also do some planes, and have amassed quite a collection over the past 30- to 40 years. I probably do six to eight a year, and, visually, I love to see the finished work.

Do you have a favorite book or author?

I like to read every night, for at least 30 minutes. My favorite author is Wilbur Smith, who writes historically accurate fiction, and has written a number of books. One of my favorites by him is River God.
