Five seek NBFAA board seats

SILVER SPRING, Md.-The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association was scheduled to hold elections for its executive committee on June 26. Four candidates were vying for three vice president seats up for election. The candidates are Paul Carroll, George Gunning, Jamie Orvis and Tony Shaddix. Carroll, who has been on the NBFAA's board for 15 years, is running on the platform of a balanced budget for the association, while Gunning is a proponent of licensing and training in the industry. Gunning, who currently holds the position of secretary, has served as president of the California Alarm Association. Orvis, a current NBFAA vice president, said he would like to see the association continue to modernize and computerize delivery of services to members. Candidate Shaddix, director of technical operations for Brink's Home Security, said he would like the association to become more aggressive, proactive and vocal about issues now facing the alarm industry. The only uncontested race this year is for the position of secretary. Grant Thayer, who currently serves on the NBFAA membership and member services committee as its chair and on the association's marketing and NTS committees, is running for that seat. Ballots were due June 26, with election results announced soon after.
