HFS opens training center

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill.--Honeywell Fire Systems in July announced the opening of a new training facility here, and there's already a full roster of two-, three- and five-day courses scheduled.

“We have 13 weeks worth of training scheduled between now and the end of the year,” said Jeff Behuniak, director of training for Honeywell Fire systems.

The center will be used to train dealers on all HFS including Notifier and Gamewell-FCI. Honeywell Analytics will use the space to provide dealers with “hands-on experience in the theory, operation and installation of its gas detection products.”

The center is made up of three classrooms, two of which are separated by a moveable wall, “so, if need be we, can open it up and seat 70 to 80 people,” said Behuniak.

In planning for the space, Behuniak and others “wanted a flexible space that's fully configurable.” He is particularly excited about eight mobile training stations, “elaborate structures with swinging doors.” Each two-person station has built into it extensive Gamewell-FCI, Notifier, and Honeywell Building Solutions systems. “They're like giant Trojan Horses that we can wheel around,” he said.

This location was chosen, in part, because of its central location in the country and its proximity to a major airport in Chicago. There are two other Honeywell Life Safety Training Centers, one in Atlanta and one in Northford, Conn.
