Honeywell picked for canal security

SYOSSET, N.Y.-The Panama Canal Authority has selected Honeywell's Security and Fire Solutions business to provide access-control and closed-circuit TV security solutions for the authority's multi-facility canal operations. The multi-million dollar project will be completed in phases. It will provide enhanced security for facilities at the Panama Canal that include 3,100 employees and cover more than 100,000 square feet spanning the entire 48-mile length of the canal. More than 12,000 sea-faring vessels pass through the canal each year. "We chose an integrated security solution from Honeywell/Ademco due to our previous positive experience with the people and the products," said Fermin Caballero, operations manager of the Panama Canal Authority's Protection Division. "We have been using Honeywell's Ademco security solutions for more than 10 years with excellent results, so this was the next logical step for us." The new Honeywell/Ademco integrated solution will use the company's PW5000 version controllers and ProWatch software. The system offers a single-source advanced access-control solution based on state-of-the-art digital video surveillance and asset tracking technology.
