IEI partners to add biometrics

CANTON, Mass. - International Electronics Inc. has partnered with Precise Biometrics to incorporate fingerprint biometric technology into IEI's stand-alone and networkable single door access control systems. Precise Biometrics' fingerprint reader will be incorporated into IEI's flagship Secured Series of access control products, which will become available in January, according to Jim Lynch, access control manager for IEI. The company has already placed an initial order for Precise Biometrics' BioAccess readers. Although the Precise Biometrics' reader will be IEI's first fingerprint reader, IEI has been using a voice authentication technology called Voicekey as part of its product offering. "Our customers are looking to add biometric applications to meet the needs that their end users are asking for," Lynch said. "Our ability to provide a complete system integrated with the controllers and access control software as well as the biometric reader is our approach to give our customers a turnkey solution." Precise Biometrics officials hoped to capitalize on IEI's strong reseller network to enhance its U.S sales.
