Rick Boumel, Jr., 36

VP, engineering & field operations, Minuteman Security Technologies

Andover, Mass.

Rick Boumel, Jr. got started in security through his father, who worked for a company in the security industry that had openings for field technicians.

“I started out at the bottom as an apprentice technician 15 years ago, and worked my way up through the ranks going to a senior technician and then into project management and ultimately getting into more of an engineer/IT role,” he explained. “I worked at that integrator for 12 years and when I left I was overseeing all of the engineering and IT infrastructure for the Northeast region.”

Boumel joined Minuteman three years ago, because “I could see huge potential for the company, and jumped at the opportunity,” he said.

In his role, Boumel oversees engineering and field operations for the New Hampshire/Vermont region. “We recently opened up an office back in October in Manchester and I have been tasked with overseeing the general operations for the day-to-day business for that region because it is a new start-up for us and Minuteman wanted to make sure that it got off on the right foot,” he explained. “I am overseeing anything in regard to engineering on the sales side to ensure that we are meeting proposals for what the customer is expecting and what the risk is to the company—labor, margins, customer requirements, etc.”

One of the things Boumel likes about the security industry is that every day brings something different. “The technology is changing so rapidly,” he said. “One of the biggest things that I say to the guys that work with me is to constantly stay abreast and up to speed on the technology because if you don’t it is going to go right past you.”

He also likes being able to design systems from the beginning and meet a customer’s expectations. “It is gratifying being able to deliver the solution you kind of sell them on up front,” he said.
