IP-based monitoring firm purchased to create physical IT solutions

AUSTIN--NetBotz, an IP-based monitoring solutions company, was purchased by American Power Conversion Corp., a West Kingston, R.I., manufacturer of power supplies and surge products, for $31 million in cash on Monday. The purchase will expand APC's portfolio by incorporating NetBotz's environmental and video monitoring devices. Now the company will offer to its customers a complete physical infrastructure, said Dave Johnson, general manager of rack systems for APC. "Netbotz's software, hardware and cameras add to the power backup and temperature-control products APC already offers," Johnson said. The merger will provide video and environmental monitoring with a smart application. "We are finding our customers, the IT managers and chief financial officers, are concerned about physical security. NetBotz's products will address that solution," Johnson said. NetBotz has 61 employees and will remain in Austin, he said.
