IQinVision, Genetec partner with IP video

MONTREAL, Canada--Genetec, a video management software manufacturer, recently completed the integration of IQinVision's megapixel IP cameras into its core Omnicast offering. However, said Stephen Kaiser, Genetec's director of business development, "There is a fit not just on the technology side, but also a commercial fit, because we like to get closer to our hardware partners so we can share leads or jointly visit customers." "The installers that they use will now have a reliable megapixel camera in their portfolio," said Paul Bodell, IQinVision's vice president of sales and marketing. "They'll have the confidence to go out and present that to their clients. The good news for us is that once you see a megapixel camera you wonder why you used anything else." Kaiser said the decision to partner with IQinVision in such a way was driven by Genetec's opinion that IQinVision's megapixel cameras are "best of breed." Not only does IQinVision deliver good picture quality, said Kaiser, but the cameras also offer analytics and other intelligent features at the edge of the network, and "It's our feeling that the security network of the future will be doing things in a distributed manner, with more simple operations on the edge, more complex operations at the server level." Kaiser also emphasized IQ's "resolution on demand," which allows users to manage bandwidth use and image quality in real time. Bodell didn't disagree with Kaiser's reasoning: "I think they realized we are probably the leading megapixel camera manufacturer, the leading smart camera manufacturer; they realized how much traction we've had recently in the U.S." Genetec announced at April's ISC West show an intention to enter the U.S. market, after traditionally operating under their brand in Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
