Michael Stapleton buys into Access

NEW YORK--Michael Stapleton Associates, a firm based here that’s been working in bomb detection, counter-terrorism and executive protection, has bought into the electronic security space with the acquisition of Access Systems Integration, a New York-region firm. James Hennessy, ASI president, will continue as president of MSA’s Security Systems Integration division. “It was a piece we didn’t have,” said Keith Mulcahy, MSA director of sales and marketing. He noted the company has been in business for 20 years and have many clients who buy integration services from other companies as part of their security solutions. “We just never offered this service, and we felt it was a good time to offer it directly ... We already have a 24-hour operations center, staffed with subject matter experts, so we felt like the technology piece would allow us to leverage that command center.” MSA and ASI did not have a previous business relationship, Mulcahy said, but “the people [at Access Systems] wanted to move the company to the next level, and we felt there were a lot of synergies between our two companies ... and they have a great client base, too.” Currently, MSA has clients across the globe, while ASI has served the Pennsylvania-to-Connecticut portion of the East Coast. MSA will to bring some of ASI’s integration expertise to its client base. This is Stapleton’s second acquisition of 2008. In January, the company purchased JMT Associates, an executive protection and investigations firm based in Boston.
