ESSEXVILLE, Mich.--The Michigan Fire Service and the National Fire Sprinkler Association cleared the first hurdle in their efforts to mandate the installation of fire sprinklers in one and two-family homes, reported Jeff Hugo, NFSA north central regional manager. On May 2, the Michigan Code Committee agreed to recommend the adoption of the 2006 International Residential Code, which would make sprinklers mandatory. "There will be yet two more meetings to seal the deal," Hugo said.
