NBFAA: ‘Exempt us’

Monday, December 1, 2008

IRVING, Texas--The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association announced in November that it requested an exemption for alarm and security systems from a proposed Dept. of Energy regulation that is expected to be announced this month. Called “Test Procedures for Battery Chargers and External Power Supplies in Standby Mode and Off Mode,” the regulation is intended to conserve energy, but could adversely affect the security industry. Mike Miller, NBFAA president, said in a statement, that the industry supports the intention, but noted that “disconnecting the power source destroys the purpose and integrity of [security] systems.”
