Optex opens the door to new company

TORRANCE, Calif.--Manufacturer Optex Co. Ltd. Japan spun out the automatic door sensors and factory automatic sensors operations of its U.S.-based subsidiary Optex Inc. in January, creating Optex Technologies Inc. "During the past three years, the automatic door division has been expanding dramatically," explained Rob Blair, chief executive officer of the new unit, on the decision to separate. "We felt from a management standpoint it was best to separate these two divisions." Existing customers of Optex Inc. remain business partners of Optex Technologies Inc., including Horton Automatic Doors. Optex Inc. continues to provide sensors for intrusion detection products and relocated within the Los Angeles area to Chino Hills. Former president of the division, Blair, assumed the role of chief executive officer of the new business unit, and Jim Quick was promoted to president from vice president of sales at Optex Inc.
