Oracle Surveillance now Securityhunter Brief

BALTIMORE--After a protracted legal battle with the similarly named Oracle software house, systems integrator Oracle Surveillance has changed its name to Securityhunter. Chief executive officer Michael Rogers, who founded the company in 1988, said he couldn't discuss details of a settlement that left both sides happy, but did say that Oracle "were generous people. They're very nice people. We all found peace."
After many years of co-existence, Rogers attributes the initial suit from Oracle to some press that Oracle Surveillance got regarding his company's use of Viisage (now Identix) facial recognition products in installations. "Small companies usually just roll over," Rogers said, but he decided to countersue, attempting to get Oracle to change its name.
Going forward, Rogers said Securityhunter will focus on a new e-commerce venture, and will continue to bid on GSA jobs. Currently, roughly 75 percent of business is the in public sector.
