Pivot3 launches partner program New storage manufacturer hopes to bring new savvy to the security industry

SPRING, Texas--Pivot3, which touts itself as the inventor of virtual distributed RAID storage, announced in July a partner program targeting the physical security market. The program will include training and marketing resources, lead generation and distribution to partners, and 24-7 access to the Pivot3 partner web site for resellers of Pivot3's IP storage cluster solutions. Jeffrey Bell, vice president of marketing at Pivot3, said the company is offering a "fundamentally different" storage model for the IP video surveillance market. Founded four years ago by "guys who'd done a bunch of RAID development at Compaq," Pivot3 has taken RAID's data protection logic and, "rather than implement it in a particular piece of hardware, like a RAID controller," Bell said, "it's a software-based distributed data protection that's distributed across the network. It gives us the ability to have an unbounded capacity and performance." Dave Carreon, vice president of sales at integrator Insight Video Net, is one of Pivot3's first integrator partners. He called the Pivot3 solution a "very scalable, pay-as-you-grow storage environment." The package comes with software and racks of hard drives, which self discover on the network and can be grouped by a storage administrator for specific purposes. "We've installed these systems at [a police department]," agreed Carreon, "and it's definitely under 30 minutes from putting them in the rack to serving data. It's not rocket science."
