BARTOW, Fla.--Newschief.com reports Polk County residents can look forward to paying more for false alarms. While the number of false alarms to which the sheriff's office responds annually has dropped in recent years, the cost of responding to them remains.
The new charges are basically double those in the original fee schedule except for those incurred for the eighth infraction or more, which increased from $300 to $500.
The first two false alarm calls to the same location will not result in a fine. The third call will bring a $100 fine, followed by a $150 fee for the fourth. Fees increase in $100 increments up to $500 for the eighth false alarm. Each subsequent false alarm will require a $500 fee.
