Richmond BC wants to sprinkle hotels Brief

RICHMOND, British Columbia--The Richmond Review reported that the Richmond Council is drafting a bylaw to require hotel owners to install sprinklers. New hotels in Richmond must be sprinklered, but hotels built before the building code was enacted are grandfathered. The push for a sprinkler ordinance began after a fire at the Best Western Richmond Inn in September 2005 claimed the lives of two U.S. tourists. The Best Western Richmond Inn has since voluntarily outfitted more than 200 rooms with sprinklers.
