REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—Safran Identity and Security is opening a new office here, with plans to be fully moved in and operational in Q1 2017.

“[The company’s] Redwood City office will bring proximity and responsiveness to our West Coast customers. It will also add an innovation center where we can interact with our partners in real time,” Arnaud Jullien president and CEO of Safran’s subsidiary Morpho N.A., Inc. and VP sales North America, business solutions division, told Security Systems News in an email interview. “We are leasing a space and custom designing the interior to meet our needs.”

The new location will be mainly focused on identity and security for commercial markets, including digital payment, digital identity and IoT. “In Redwood City, we will demonstrate our multi-biometrics capability and solutions based on fingerprints, iris and facial recognition,” said Jullien.

Initially, the space can hold 25 employees, Jullien said, but can be built out for 40.

The company has 15 other locations in the U.S. including three for Morpho Detection, Jullien said. “All but one of our other locations are focused on the government market. Our other location for commercial markets is on the East Coast, in Pennsylvania.”

Jullien said the new office’s proximity to Silicon Valley is a benefit. “The location will allow us to be near many of our strategic customers, partners and high technology companies that are boosting this industry. This will allow us to have a greater insight into their needs and will allow us to be even more responsive. We’ll have both business and technical resources on site that can assist with development and integration.”

Jullien continued, “In addition, we’ll be a part of this vibrant high tech community and able to deliver insights back to our core team in France. Last but not least, in the longer term we can take advantage of the outstanding talent pool that exists in the Bay Area to complement our team.”
