HONOLULU - Securitas Security Services and Wackenhut Corp. have won security contracts for the state’s airports, with Securitas beating out two current security contractors for its jobs.
Securitas has been awarded contracts at Honolulu International Airport and Kona and Hilo airports. Wackenhut retained its contracts in Kahului, Lanai and Lihue.
Akal Security, which employs 750 people in Hawaii, lost its bid for airport work. The company has been providing security at Honolulu International Airport. Its employees are expected to be considered for jobs by Securitas since they are already trained on airport security.
