Security Summit, Nagin draw 200

SAN DIEGO--With New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Canada's director general of border integrity, Mike Cabana, as keynote speakers, the Security Network convened its 3rd annual Security Summit here at the Marriot Mission Valley, June 28 and 29. With roughly 200 in attendance, and 28 companies exhibiting their wares, "we're not trying to compete with an ASIS or an ISC," said Security Network board member Michael Jones, president of M&A firm ProFinance Associates. "What we're focusing on is the most innovative technologies." To that end, 21 of the exhibiting companies entered products in a competition judging the best technology in two categories: command and control, and security software and services. These products were then judged by a 12-person panel, including a number of end users like Mark Denari, director of aviation security at the San Diego Regional Airport Authority, Augie Ghio, chief of the San Miguel Fire District, and Bob Welty, director of Homeland Security at San Diego State University. Archaio, which creates three-dimensional building blueprints for system integration, won the software competition. Pacific Microwave, which develops digital microwave video surveillance systems, was first in command and control. The Security Network's next event will be co-located with ASIS, in San Diego, September 26, where it will sponsor "The Security of Our Ports: Who Is Responsible and What Is Our Strategy?" The presentation will carry a separate registration fee and will be led by Steve Flynn, senior fellow for national security studies at the council on foreign relations.
