SimplexGrinnell buys fire firm

KITCHENER, Ontario-One of the oldest fire protection companies in this area has been bought by SimplexGrinnell, providing the large scale fire and systems integration company with additional strength. Details about the purchase price for the approximately eight to 10 employee company were not available. "They offered complementary services, what we call portable extinguishers and kitchen hood systems," said Chris Woodcock, manager of advertising and public relations for SimplexGrinnell. "So it offered complementary capabilities that enhances ours." According to Woodcock, Simplex-Grinnell retained the company's employees, integrating them into the company's branch in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. He said such acquisitions are common for Tyco International, SimplexGrinnell's parent company, since they are "tuck-in" deals. "Tyco has operated under a model of acquisitions that has been one of their ways that they grow their business, as well as organic growth," said Woodcock. "It's a strategic acquisition that will add value."
