Sprinkler co. heads south

ELMSFORD, N.Y. - Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., based here, is moving a majority of its operations, including its research facilities, to a facility currently under construction in Pickens, S.C.
Reliable considered relocating to a number of communities across the country for about three years before settling on the Pickens County Commerce Park. A 300,000-square-foot facility is currently under construction.
The price tag for the facility, which should be completed by mid-2005, will run about $12 million, according to the Swamp Fox, an online information resource provided by Velocity Holdings.
Later this year, the company will begin an 18-month transition to the new facility.
In addition to research, Reliable will move its primary product development, manufacturing and distribution facilities. It will continue to operate about 20 sales and distribution sites around the world. Its corporate headquarters will remain in Elmsford, N.Y.
