Telular's TG-11 bridges loss-of-landline gap

ATLANTA, Ga.--At ASIS International here on Sept. 15, Telular Corporation, a manufacturer of alarm and event monitoring solutions and services, unveiled its newest cellular alarm communicator, the TG-11.

"The TG-11 essentially pretends to be a real landline telephone that connects to the monitoring station," said Shawn Welsh, VP Marketing and Business Development for Telular. "It pretends to be the central station to the alarm and pretends to be the alarm to the central monitoring station."

Welsh said that the TG-11 is of value because it's basically a cellular device that bridges the security system communication gap end users more and more frequently encounter as they abandon their landlines to go fully mobile.

Welsh said that three factors will drive the TG-11's success: affordability, speed and ease of installation, and simple post-installation operational maintenance. With the TG-11, Welsh said, all three of these factors are addressed. The TG-11 costs $149. It takes roughly six minutes to complete the simple, almost tool-less installation, and the need for maintenance is virtually non-existent.

"There's no battery on the TG-11," Welsh said. "It utilizes back-up power from the control panel." Also, if the device ever needs to be reconfigured, the whole operation can be done remotely. "The TG-11 has panel uploading and downloading." So if the end user ever "tries to get creative," the dealer can look up the original configuration from installation and remotely initiate a return to factory defaults. Since it's all done remotely, it saves the dealer time and money by eliminating the need to dispatch a maintenance team to the end user's location.

The TG-11 was set to roll out at the end of September in ADI outlets nationwide.
