Steve Surfaro moves to Axis Panasonic vet to reprise role as industry liaison, channel manager

ATLANTA--One of the more ubiquitous faces on the industry show circuit was handing out new business cards here at ASIS International. Steve Surfaro, who served 12 years with Panasonic and led countless seminars and product demonstrations as the company’s public face, is now the strategic channel manager and industry liaison for Axis Communications. Surfaro said the move was consistent with his view of the industry’s future: “For a long time, I’ve really believed that our security industry is really a subset of a larger communications industry, and the company is called Axis Communications for a reason. I truly believe that infrastructure and communications go hand in hand in providing the best video solution possible.” Surfaro will report to Jumbi Edulbehram, director, strategic channel at Axis. He’ll be responsible for working with Axis’ vendor partners as well as those providing “strategic online and remote monitoring solutions,” along with outreach to industry associations. He said his speaking schedule will remain similar, following up his appearance here with an engagement at ISC East later in October. After just a few weeks on the job, Surfaro said he has found the depth of experience at Axis “unparalleled,” and he was impressed with “the ability for all parties to work together.” “Sometimes in the security industry,” he said, “which is historically very conservative, you have segmented roles, but here in this organization you have a great deal of creative collaboration, and it’s really welcome.”
