Tri-Ed ups branches, employees, data

WOODBURY, N.Y.--One year after coming under new ownership, Tri-Ed Distribution's network of branches in Canada and the United States has grown from 26 to 34, with the two most recent locations opening in January in Clearwater, Fla., and Minneapolis. The security and low voltage products distributor has steadily increased its footprint since Steve Roth, Wheatley Partners and USBX Advisory Services bought the business from Tyco International in February of 2005. Roth expects to open six new locations in 2006. "We still have some significant areas to address," said Roth, chief executive officer of Tri-Ed. "That would be the tri-state area here in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati and Atlanta." In addition to locations, the distributor also added an IP-based operations system and more employees. The new system connects the company's locations and provides real-time information on inventory, customers, orders and the shipping of products, said Roth. "Previously we were operating off two different systems in Canada and the U.S.," he said. Approximately 300 people work for the company, compared with 250 just one year ago. The company hired five regional managers, 15 new branch managers and a number of inside sales people working at the company's distribution branches, said Roth.
