Viisage buys SecuriMetrics Brief

BILLERICA, Mass.--Biometrics firm Viisage, fresh off its major merger with Identix, of Minnesota, has agreed to buy SecuriMetrics for $28 million, with the potential for another $13 million if SecuriMetrics meets certain benchmarks. Though the Viisage/Identix merger created a biometrics powerhouse, the pair were lacking an iris-recognition component, which SecuriMetrics now brings. In early 2005, SecuriMetrics received a $4.7 million U.S. Department of Defense contract to develop an all-in-one device that features iris, fingerprint and facial recognition. In December, the company received another $4.4 million order. The Martinez, Calif., company is expected to add roughly $15 million in revenue to Viisage's bottom line in 2006.
