FLORAL PARK, N.Y.—FJC Technology Solutions, a security integrator and guard company, has expanded into the fire installation business, with the acquisition, announced in April, of Champion Fire Detection.

“This enables us to bundle our services, and provide a one-stop shop for our clients and grow our product lines at the same time,” said Mark Coffino, senior vice president of FJC parent company FJC Security Services, a $165 million company.

FJC has been in business since 1988. It began as a guard business and, at the request of customers, began to branch out into electronic security—CCTV, access control, burg and intercom systems—over the past five years. Today it has about 5,000 guards and 250 non-guard employees.

The fire business has been rebranded as Safeway Fire & Protection Company. It specializes in commercial and industrial fire installation and is an Edwards dealer. The former owner, John Layne, and two senior staff members have joined Safeway.

The integration of the new company is complete, said Dan Kime, senior vice president of Safetway and principal of FJC Technology Solutions.

“It’s fully functional with service and sales in place, as if we’ve been doing it this way for 10 years,” he said.

As part of the investment, FJC moved from a 1,200-square-foot office space to a 2,600-square-foot suite. “FJC has invests a lot of money and time ... this says something about our strength and commitment to growth,” Kime added.
