CHICAGO - The landmark ordinance that was approved here late last year, requiring all commercial high rises within the city to install fire sprinklers by 2016, also includes a passage that allows non-metal pipes, such as chlorinated polyvinyl chloride material, in fire-sprinkler installations for the first time.

In Section 5 of the Substitute Ordinance, the City Council of the City of Chicago inserted the new Section 13-196-207.

CHICAGO - The Chicago Building Committee has approved an ordinance that requires all commercial high-rise buildings to have fully installed sprinkler systems by 2016, with at least one-third of each building updated every four years starting this month. But the measure leaves out any such requirement for residential buildings.

MIAMI - A year and one half after becoming a strategic partner of Edwards Systems Technology, Integrated Security Systems has increased revenue from fire installations by 50 percent.

The company expected to close with $400,000 in revenue from fire installations in 2003, and foresees ending this coming year with $1 million on that side of its business, according to Michael Smith, director of sales and marketing.
