SAN MATEO, Calif.—Verkada has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of physical artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across the built environment, while also revealing that NVIDIA has made a strategic investment in the company.
The announcement marks the latest high-profile investment in Verkada, following a strategic investment from Alphabet's CapitalG announced late last year.
According to Verkada, the partnership is designed to expand the capabilities of its AI-powered physical security platform, which the company said is deployed across more than 2.4 million devices serving 30,000 organizations in 170 countries.
“Verkada has been building and deploying physical AI before the term existed,” said Filip Kaliszan, co-founder and CEO of Verkada. “With our footprint of more than 2.4 million devices across 170 countries and 30,000 organizations, we've proven that the built environment is one of the largest beneficiaries of AI.”
Verkada said the collaboration will focus on strengthening the AI models that power its intelligent video analytics platform, including AI-powered video search, multimodal embeddings, vector retrieval and semantic search capabilities. The company also plans to leverage synthetic data generation to improve training datasets and model accuracy.
As part of the effort, Verkada is utilizing NVIDIA Cosmos world foundation models and NVIDIA Physical AI Data Factory to accelerate model training and inference across its platform.
The company reported that since beginning its work with NVIDIA, it has improved the mean average precision (mAP) of its AI-powered search capabilities by 68% for spatial-temporal understanding, resulting in faster and more accurate search performance.
Verkada said it is also developing a multi-model search agent architecture and exploring reasoning models designed to address more complex security and operational scenarios. Potential applications include identifying health and safety incidents in manufacturing environments and detecting retail shrinkage.
The company said the collaboration reflects its broader strategy of bringing more context-aware AI capabilities to organizations across markets including education, healthcare, retail and manufacturing.
NVIDIA's investment adds to growing interest from major technology companies and investors in the application of AI to physical security and operational technologies.
