TAMPA, Fla.--Domestic violence victims in Hillsborough County considered to be in imminent danger will receive home security systems as part of Abused Women's Active Response Emergency, a program sponsored by ADT Security, the Tampa Police Department and Sheriff's Office and the Spring of Tampa Bay, a crisis center.
The local AWARE program launch took place on November 15, said Diane Silverman, public relations manager with ADT.
The system enables a victim in danger to push a button, mounted on a wall or pendant, that sends a silent alarm to ADT and law enforcement.
ADT began the AWARE program in 1992. It is in place in 177 cities across the country. ADT pays for the service, which it sponsors in collaboration with local law enforcement and social service groups.
