BEATRICE, Neb.--The Beatrice Daily Sun on Oct. 3 reported the Beatrice City Council would take an unusual step and discuss the possibility of making its standing commercial false alarm ordinance more lenient.
The council voted at its Oct. 5 meeting to allow four free false alarms a month up from 1. Alarms one through four are free, five incurs a fine of $50, six a fine of $100, and seven and up earns a fine of $250.
In addition, all systems must be registered through a $25 a year registration fee. Unregistered alarms that generate a false alarm necessitate a $250 penalty.
